AR Remote Assistance: AAMS Use of Augmented Reality for Remote Assistance.

Updated: Jan 29

AR for remote assistance

The Opportunity:

A prominent company specializing in condition monitoring services sought to enhance their resource allocation across various site locations. Their goal was to minimize the frequency of on-site visits while ensuring the availability of expert assistance for clients. This initiative aimed to streamline the allocation of L3 engineers' time, directing their expertise toward addressing the most critical issues efficiently.

Our Response:

In response to this challenge, AAMS partnered with Hopnet to develop a mobile application harnessing Augmented Reality (AR) for remote assistance. Our collaborative effort resulted in the creation of an AR app, enabling seamless remote connections with L3 engineers when guidance is needed. Additionally, the application includes a comprehensive library of guides for training, utilizes AR markers, and features a QR code reader to provide real-time data from machines.

Here's how it worked:

  • QR for real time data We equipped the AAMS team with a QR code generator integrated into the mobile application. This tool empowered them to create QR codes for the monitored machines. When scanned using the mobile application, these QR codes instantly delivered real-time data and machine-specific details, accompanied by relevant guides.

  • Remote Expertise A secure, cloud-based Augmented Reality (AR) platform allowed AAMS's central maintenance experts to establish remote connections with on-site personnel. This connectivity supported real-time video streaming and bidirectional audio communication.

  • Real-time Guidance When an issue arose, on-site technicians could use the smartphones to stream their view to remote experts. These experts could then provide real-time guidance, annotate the technician's view, and even overlay instructional diagrams or 3D models directly onto the equipment.

Benefits

55hrs of travel time saved every month.

40% improvement in response time.

30% reduction in training time.
